About

Committed to reducing stigma, increasing knowledge, changing attitudes and beliefs around suicide. The Walk of Hope is held annually in Pierre to decrease the stigma surrounding suicide and behavioral health disorders, increase awareness of available community resources, and provide hope and healing to those struggling. Behavioral health disorders are common, affecting 1 in 6 South Dakota adults. But for someone living with it, mental health and substance use disorders can feel isolating. People might be reluctant to talk about it due to stigma, shame or the fear of being judged. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in South Dakota. People considering suicide are often living with trauma, pain, addiction, or behavioral health disorders. However, help is available. We hope to emphasize this through our theme, No One Walks Alone. All funds raised from the annual Walk of Hope support life-saving programming in Hughes, Stanley, Haakon, Jones, Lyman, Buffalo, Hyde, Sully, and Potter counties and their communities.
